Shia and Sunni sects prayed side by side during Friday prayers

Manama

Setting a unique example of unity in Bahrain society, people from Shia and Sunni sects assembled at A'ali Grand Mosque for joint Friday prayers here yesterday.

"Bahrainis have today set a model of unity in the face of conspirators against the Arab and Islamic nations," commented Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ali Al-Khalifa on the sidelines of the joint Friday prayer performed at A'ali Grand Mosque.

“All mosques are for Allah Almighty. Bahrain would always remain a model of moderation, harmony, Islamic unity and patriotism,” he said in a statement.
"The extremist, wherever he is in Bahrain, will always find himself isolated.”

He added that Bahrain and its people would stand as a bulwark to thwart the attempts to subvert their country's security, undermine national achievements or derail the homeland, which derives its policy from its religion, Arab identity and civilizational values.

Shaikh Khalid lauded the people of Bahrain, who voiced strong solidarity with their brethren in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Kuwait in confronting the scourge of terrorism. “It reflects their awareness, spirit of fraternity and authentic mettle,” he remarked.

A'ali Grand Mosque Imam Shaikh Nasser Khalaf Al-Asfoor highlighted the critical situation the nation was facing as a result of external dangers and international designs, which threaten its existence.

He pointed out that Bahrainis hailing from all sects and doctrines had long lived on this land of peace, security, tolerance, solidarity and co-existence. The Imam also hailed the Bahrainis from the two sects, who performed joint Friday prayers at A'ali Grand Mosque.

At a time the region is going through a difficult situation, the joint Friday prayers by the two sects send a strong message that Bahrain remains immune to terrorism and the intimidation and threats will only make the country more united as well as fortified.
