Works Ministry paves new roads in the vicinity of schools

 Within the ongoing preparations for the new school year, Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Ministry announced that it had recently implemented a set of road projects in the vicinity of schools.

 The ministry explained in a statement the projects aim to enhance the quality of roads near schools, to maintain students’ safety and facilitate their movement.

 Roads Assistant Undersecretary Huda Fakhro revealed that the ministry has set a plan to implement important projects near schools as part of its preparations for the new academic year.

 She said the projects would reduce traffic congestions near schools and provide a safe environment for pupils.

 The ministry developed roads near Hamad Town Intermediate Boys’ School, West Riffa Secondary Girls’ School, Al Maarifa Secondary Girls School in Riffa.

 According to the ministry, a similar project is also in the process in the Educational Area in Isa Town. It was stated the project includes repaving Roads 4013 and 41. The ministry added that 37 per cent of the project is completed.

 Fakhro also said that pedestrian crossing points and speed humps near schools were repainted, in addition to implementing maintenance works at the traffic signals.

 The Assistant undersecretary confirmed that the ministry has coordinated with the General Directorate of Traffic to assign specialised technicians near traffic signals during rush hours.

 The latest projects add to maintenance works that were previously initiated by the ministry at 40 public schools.
